Architecture and environmental design can heal communities that have historical disruptions in the urban and ecological fabric. It's up to the people to engage in planning that achieves these objectives. In this particular case, the issue being addressed is the colonial settlement of South Africa by the Dutch, Portuguese and English that resulted in a system of oppression of native people. A new government established policies of racial parity and made new structures, connections and ecological preservation a priority.
The first step to integrate not only the culture but the financial and physical resources of South Africa is to establish transportation linkages. These facilities reflect the language of symbolic native culture and ecology, to rise above the old history of apartheid and visually embrace a sustainable future driven by consensus process.
